Activities during my International placement at Dubai Center for Special Needs.

Counting in Five’s and Ten’s activity

Children were given a class on counting within fives and tens which was part of their lesson plan. After the lesson was taught to them. They practised counting in fives and tens, taking turns walking up to

the chart and showing hand representation of the number told to them. For example,

Seventy would be two hands held out, opening and closing seven times.

Yoga Activity

The children were briefed the previous day about yoga and its benefits. They were shown a PowerPoint presentation on yoga. Sign language was used to explain the details of the yoga experience to accommodate a student who cannot hear or speak the next day, the yoga activity was carried out in the sensory room with lighting effects and special cushioning

to enhance student’s experience and accommodate physical challenges.

Addition and Subtraction Activity

Children reviewed addition and subtraction. They practised using their bead frame to add and subtract numbers in the clouds picked by me on the chart. The class then collectively reviewed and compared their answers

Sunflower Activity

The students were given a class on sunflowers and gardening. They were then invited to sow seeds in their individual pots.

They ended the activity by decorating their pots and watering their Flowers. As the days went by the children would observe the seed sprouts stem shoots and compare their flower’s growth.

Paper Snail Craft Activity

Children were invited to discuss previous stories they read about insects and snails. They were given a brief presentation about snails and were then guided to create a snail using craft paper
